About Itchin' post

Itchin’ Post Animal Grooming Pads were invented by Cherie McKenzie - Owner/Proprietor of Sundown Horse Farm and Rescue Shelter. Cherie has been caring for horses and other animals most of her life. That’s why she took the classes to become a certified rescue and boarding facility.

With several horses and other animals to care for, Sundown is a busy sanctuary for animals. “That is, after all, part of the dream isn’t it? To provide sanctuary for the animals”, said Cherie.

“I could almost see the gate bending from a distance as I watched Dakota (the draft horse) scratching his rear end. I was getting tired of Vet bills from the horses scratching on things around the farm and causing damage to themselves and our property,” said Cherie, “I looked everywhere to find something I could cover sharp objects with. I wanted something to give the horses’ relief and protection from using tree branches and the corner of the barn or anything sharp enough to injure them. I even made up some makeshift scratching areas but nothing held up under my English Shire Jake who weighs in at nearly a ton.”

With the help of a neighbor, Nick Forchette, the perfect solution was created. The Itchin’ Post Animal Grooming Pad, a 23 1/4”x 15” flexible pad with rounded nubs sticking up about an inch that protects and massages animals at the same time. Itchin’ Post is super durable design stands up to extreme temperatures of -77 F to 277 F. Itchin Post provides years of massage action for your animals safely without pulling out hair.

Itchin Post can be wrapped around posts, corners, or mounted flat on the wall using screws and washers for a secure stationary installation. The semi porous surface of each nub stimulates blood flow bringing important nutrients to muscles for faster healing. At the same time protection and comfort hold up with the durability needed to provide a safe place for the animals to scratch anywhere in your barn or pasture.

By hanging itchin’ posts in several locations around the farm such as fences, posts, corners of the barn, gates, stalls and other areas it allowed all the horses to find their favorite place. “What surprised me was their territorial nature about it. Jake would chase the other horses if he caught them using his itchin’ post on the corner of the shelter”, said Cherie. “Now everyone is happy and safe.”
