Itchin post Frequently asked questions
Q. Isn’t a broom head or street sweeping brush just as effective?
A. NO. Street sweeping brushes are unsanitary when you get them. They have been used to clean oily and greasy roads with chemicals you would never allow in your pastures or barns. Most of these brushes and broom heads are made of nylon that will break down quickly in sunlight or when the animals rub on them and provide only months of useful service before the bristles crack and begin to hold dirt and dander, which can’t be cleaned out.
Itchin’ Post is designed to last for five to ten years without cracking or breaking down even under extreme UV exposure, temperature changes and heavy use by animals. Also, Itchin’ Post can be removed for regular cleaning as needed.
Q. What’s special about Itchin’ Post?
A. Itchin’ Post is not a plain piece of rubber. Itchin’ Post is specifically designed for animals to rub on and is made of a special material called Santoprene. It provides massage benefits, self grooming enjoyment, relief from boredom, safety from injury, protection for equipment, fences and buildings.
Fly sprays, coat conditioners and other grooming sprays can be applied to the Itchin’ Post pad. When the animals scratch or rub the spray is transferred onto their coat as though you have sprayed that area on the animal.
Q. Will Itchin’ Post pull my animal’s hair out?
A. NO. Itchin’ post is made with Santoprene, a type of soft -touch material. However, its dense properties and solid design make it tough also. Animals usually lose hair on splinted wood, metal edges, nails and other sharp objects that break the follicle at some point; this causes the hair to die and break off. Itchin’ Post has nothing edgy to cause hair damage.
Q. Will my animals chew on Itchin’ Post?
A. NO. Animals chew because they are bored. They prefer to chew on other textures such as wood. They won’t like the texture or taste of the Itchin’ Post. The porous material will hold anything sprayed onto the surface. By spraying it with a product that discourages chewing/cribbing, this will prevent the animal from the behavior.
Q. How do you install Itchin’ Post?
A. Whenever possible we encourage the use of screws and washers to fasten itchin’ post pads. DO NOT use nails, they pull out too easily and may become a hazard. The convenient pre-drilled holes are handy for using twine or zip-ties to hang the pads on surfaces that screws won’t work on. The pads can be drilled through in any location. It isn’t necessary to use every hole provided for a secure installation.
